The story

Kairosong was born from a guy who loves spending his evenings with friends, talking about whatever’s coming out of the bar’s speakers. And above all, wondering: “what year did this song first come out?”

Two questions come up:

“How old was I when this came out?”

“This sound, these lyrics, this style: what era do they belong to?”

A memory you go looking for, that comes back like Proust’s madeleine; the picture you have of an era, even one you never lived through.

That’s Kairosong. A game about time and history. Sometimes deeply personal, sometimes on the scale of a whole generation.

Sometimes a quick search online - once the song is identified - gives you the year you’re after. But often it’s more complicated than that. The dates given by recognition apps, search engines and streaming platforms are often those of a reissue, a remaster or a catalogue change. Nothing to do with the era the song was born in.

Years of thinking about it, a few months of writing it, and the app got there: identifying, searching, cross-checking many sources, to finally become the game he’d dreamed of.

Music lovers will enjoy its “Explore” section, which gathers what’s known about the song, the album or the artist, and the Notebook, which keeps every song from past nights, the scores and the favorites. Those less versed in musicology, and anyone who has never read a treble clef, will still enjoy finally being able to play a music quiz. Because unlike a band name or a song title, a year is something you can guess!
